Question 1

What are the basic Gin Rummy rules?

Accepted Answer

Each player receives ten cards. Draw one card and discard one on your turn. Make sets of equal ranks or same suit runs, then knock with 10 or less deadwood after discarding, or go gin with none.

Question 2

Can I play Gin Rummy online free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. This Arcadia game is free to play against three AI levels. There is no stake, token or payout, and this version does not connect to another human player.

Question 3

What is deadwood in Gin Rummy?

Accepted Answer

Deadwood is the point value of your unmatched cards. Aces count 1, face cards 10 and other cards their printed rank. The engine finds the best nonoverlapping meld arrangement automatically.

Question 4

How does knocking work?

Accepted Answer

After drawing, choose a discard that leaves ten cards with at most 10 deadwood points. Knock to end the hand. The defender reveals their hand and can lay unmatched cards onto your melds before the score is calculated.

Question 5

How many points is gin worth?

Accepted Answer

Gin is worth 25 bonus points plus all the defender’s deadwood. No layoffs are allowed against gin. The winner also banks a 25 point box, paid at the end of the match.

Question 6

What is an undercut?

Accepted Answer

An undercut happens when the defender has equal or lower deadwood than the knocker after layoffs. The defender scores 25 plus the difference and wins the box. A tie in deadwood is an undercut too.

Question 7

How are boxes and the 100-point match bonus counted?

Accepted Answer

Hand points alone decide who first reaches 100. At match settlement, each player adds 25 for each hand they won, called a box. The match winner adds another 100. Arcadia does not add a shutout bonus.

Question 8

Can an ace be high, and are there jokers or Big Gin?

Accepted Answer

No. An ace is low, so A 2 3 is a run but Q K A is not. This version has no jokers and no Big Gin: every knock includes a discard and finishes with ten cards.
